Seek His Kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.  – Lk 12:31

Reflection.  Some think the Christian life is a trial.  Why not think of it as an easy test?  It is a time for tending to yourself, a time of training for the race, a time of preparation.

Prayer.  Dear Jesus, help me to seek Your Kingdom above all else.

You are to go and proclaim the Kingdom of God.  – Lk 9:60

Reflection.  If you have any hope of persevering in your good intentions you are going to need the grace of God.  Be smart.  Look to Jesus day in and day out, and ask for His grace.

Prayer.  Dear Jesus, keep my eyes fixed on You and my heart filled with Your love for others.

My steadfast love shall not depart from you.  – Isa 54:10

Reflection.  Dreams are the seeds of great deeds.  Because God is the source of all our good thoughts and dreams, presume that He will bring to fruition all that He inspires in you.

Prayer.  Inspire me, Lord, with dreams that give me hope.

Give thanks to the Lord on the harp; offer praise to Him on the ten-stringed lyre.  – Ps 33:2

Reflection.  You praise the Lord day and night when you remain gratefully aware of His endless love for you.  The heart sings its praises in the silence of a smile.

Prayer.  You, Lord, are awesome; what more can I say?  Thank You for caring for me.

Flood waters cannot quench love, nor can torrents drown it.  – Song 8:7

Reflection.  Those who truly love one another are ready to give up their lives for their beloved.  Romantic love is often self-serving, but true love puts the beloved first.

Prayer.  Jesus, You showed Your love for us on the Cross.  Give me a loving heart like Yours.

The righteous are as confident as young lions.  – Prov 28:1

Reflection.  Lions are felines, and they like to nap all day.  The males let the females do all the hunting, and then push everyone aside, demanding to eat first.  If you really want to be righteous, you’d be better off imitating poodles.  They bark fearlessly at elephants.

Prayer.  Jesus, give me the courage to challenge the powerful when they are wrong.

To each of us, the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.  – 1 Cor 12:7

Reflection.  Every individual contributes something unique to make this a more wonderful world.  Every gift and talent counts, like the flowers in a garden.  God delights in your unique contribution to advance the common good.

Prayer.  Help me, Lord, to value and celebrate my gifts.

The violence of the wicked will sweep them away because they refuse to do what is right.  – Prov 21:7

Reflection.  Whatever their ideological convictions, Muslim extremists have turned against the will of Allah.  They call evil good, and good evil.  In the end they will perish.

Prayer.  Lord, help me not to be afraid of demonic power.  May the good Muslims prevail over the extremists.

All wisdom derives from the Lord and remains with Him forever.  – Sir 1:1

Reflection.  On this the Feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven, we celebrate her final victory over the valley of tears.  We honor her because by her life she taught us this one great truth, “Do whatever He tells you.”

Prayer.  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.

Do not forget to offer hospitality to strangers, for by doing this some have entertained Angels without knowing it.  – Heb 13:2

Reflection.  Over 100 million Americans are the descendants of 17 million immigrants who were processed through Ellis Island in New York harbor.  All of these strangers came to our shores with high hopes of making a better life.  We are the descendants of immigrants.

Prayer.  Dear Jesus, give me the eyes of faith to see You in every stranger.
