The Lord humbles and exalts … He raises the poor from the dust.  – 1 Sam 2:7-8

Reflection.  Nothing changes anxiety into joy like courage.  Courage conquers enemies from without and overcomes demons from within.

Prayer.  Dear God, protect me from my own thoughts, and help me to be in the knowledge of Your Love.

For You are my refuge, a tower of strength against the enemy.  – Ps 61:4

Reflection.  Stand fast in your confidence.  If you are armed with the armor of faith nothing can harm you.  You have real protection in the Lord, and this knowledge will give you peace of mind.

Prayer.  Dear Lord, I will not be afraid, for You are always at my side.

They forced me to look after the vineyards, but my own vineyard I could not watch over.  – Song 1:6

Reflection.  Some people are good at taking care of everyone else, but not so good at taking care of themselves.  See that this doesn’t happen to you.

Prayer.  God in heaven, I need wisdom to make the right choices in life.  Give me the power to balance things in my favor once in a while.

Jesus broke the bread and gave it to them, saying, “This is My Body, which will be given for you.”  – Lk 22:19

Reflection.  The Holy Eucharist has provided strength and sustenance to Catholics for over two thousand years.  The Mass is a ritual, and a community prayer in which the one sacrifice on Calvary is re-presented on the altar.

Prayer.  Lord, strengthen my faith in the Eucharist; feed me with the bread of Angels.

I rejoice when I endure weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and distress for the sake of Christ.  For it is when I am weak that I am strong.  – 2 Cor 12:10

Reflection.  In some mysterious way, because we are intimately united with the heart of God; we are in touch with all the agony, pain, torture, and misery in the world.

Prayer.  Dear Lord, You suffer with every one who suffers.  Thank You for helping me to carry my cross.

I have come that they may have life, and have it in abundance.  – Jn 10:10

Reflection.  Human life is mortal.  The body will dissolve into ashes.  Everything around us will turn to dust.  But the life that Jesus gives will never end.  It will carry you into eternity.  Rejoice and be glad!

Prayer.  Dear God, help me to anticipate the glory of heaven.

Never has the human heart imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.  – 1 Cor 2:9

Reflection.  All God asks is that you make a sensible effort to be good.  The rewards of virtue are visible on earth, but unimaginably spectacular in heaven.  Hang in there.

Prayer.  Dear God, help me to enjoy the wonders of the earth and to long for the wonders of eternity.

It is You Who saved us from our enemies; You scattered in confusion those who hate us.  – Ps 44:8

Reflection.  Don’t postpone joy.  Even in joyless times, you can choose to be a joyful person.  You can stand against the tide.  God will give you the victory, and you can anticipate His wonderful gifts.

Prayer.  Heavenly Father, thank You for winning my victory over sin.  Help me to realize that all the way to heaven is heaven.

“Their sins and their lawless acts I will remember no more.”  When these have been forgiven, there are no longer any offerings for sins.  – Heb 10:17-18

Reflection.  God will forgive your sins and pay all your debts, but first He asks you to give amnesty to others who have offended you.  Mercy begets mercy.  God is merciful, and He wants you to imitate Him.

Prayer.  Holy Spirit, God of love, help me to save my soul, and to help save the souls of others.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for a life of good works.  – Eph 2:10

Reflection.  Keep in mind that God knew you before you were born.  God loves you, and has a plan for you.  He made you to do a job in this world that nobody else can do.

Prayer.  Dear Lord, deepen my awareness that I am an instrument of Your love.
