You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the greatest and the first commandment.  The second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  – Mt. 22:37-40

Reflection. Christian asceticism, when properly lived, renders a person more open to a life of loving service.  The more you get outside of yourself, the freer you become to be happy.

Prayer. Heavenly Father, teach me how to love.  Teach me to render others more cheerful by my cheerfulness.  Since service focuses on the good of the neighbor, empower me to forget myself as I strive to do good.
